Clinical Study Coordinator Emerging (Infectious) Diseases

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Clinical Study Coordinator with a background in emerging (infectious) diseases to join our team. As a suitable candidate you have demonstrable expertise and/or affinity with clinical research and academic collaborations. Studies will be performed within the scope of European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Diseases (ECRAID) and The Netherlands Centre for One Health (NCOH).

The aim of ECRAID is to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on individuals and on the population level. NCOH aims for an integrated One Health approach to tackle the global risk of infectious diseases. NCOH commits to create durable solutions for this major challenge by bundling world leading academic top research in the Netherlands in the area of One Health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate clinical studies in the fields of Pandemic Preparedness and Emerging Infectious Diseases. In this position you will take a leading role in setting up clinical studies in collaboration with researchers at the department, by writing study proposals, IRB submission, and coordinating data and sample logistics.
  • An active role in the recruitment and inclusion of study participants and specimen collection.
  • Outbreak Response and Preparedness. You will play a contributing role in developing and implementing outbreak response strategies and pandemic preparedness research projects.
  • Establish and develop partnerships and collaborations with academic medical centers universities, research institutes and (non-) governmental agencies in other countries.

Postdoctoral researcher Biomarkers for Shift Work Tolerance

What are the biological pathways for health decrements in shift workers? Can we determine which shift workers are most at risk and why? If you get excited about these questions, we are looking for you: an ambitious postdoc to join our multidisciplinary project team!

Shift work is an essential part of our modern 24-hour society. It is estimated that approximately 1.3 million people in the Netherlands work occasionally or regularly at night. Working at night is linked to a higher risk for sleep disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes. Our research line `Sleep and Circadian Science for Occupational Health' aims to understand underlying mechanisms behind health decrements in shift workers by exploring biomarkers associated with circadian disruption and sleep disturbances. A comprehensive understanding of biological pathways, will help design tailored interventions to mitigate health risks and enhance well-being among shift workers. Furthermore, shift workers differ significantly in their tolerance towards working at night. Relevant factors for this so called 'shift work tolerance' are age, gender, lifestyle, working conditions, and socio-economic background. Yet, use of objective measurements to map related physiology is still scarcely applied in the field. Here, we aim to identify and validate new biomarkers, essential to gain more insight into determinants of shift work tolerance.

You will become a postdoc within the research line 'Sleep and Circadian Science for Occupational Health' under the supervision of assistant professor Heidi Lammers-van der Holst. You will have the ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively within a team.

Your primary tasks will consist of: execution and coordination of biomarkers research, contribute to teaching activities and co-supervision of PhD student, actively involved in acquisition of new research funding and strengthening collaborations within and outside Erasmus MC. You will have the opportunity to work on ongoing epidemiological studies on shift workers, such as Shift2health and BioClock projects, and have the ability to explore biomaterials form known prospective cohort studies (Biobanks).

Postdoc Scientist Cardiovascular Epidemiology Group

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is progressive cardiac arrhythmia with a highly variable clinical picture. AF episodes last for few minutes in one patient and for hours to days in another patient. It is currently unknown which factors determine the AF severity. This project focuses on unraveling these factors in 2 different populations. The first population includes the general population of the Rotterdam Study. This part focuses on the development and course of AF in asymptomatic individuals. The second part consists of patients undergoing open heart surgery who develop post-operative AF to a variable extent. In these patients, complex electrical signals on the surface of the heart are recorded prior to surgery, resulting in a huge amount of signals per patient (>200.000).

This project is a highly unique opportunity for someone seeking an interdisciplinary experience to work with a large collection of epidemiological datasets and electrical signal processing and mapping. The successful candidate will be working at the intersection of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Epidemiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology. The candidate will be responsible for development and validation of signal processing algorithms, analyses with large epidemiological and patient datasets, and supervision of Master and PhD students.

PhD candidate on AI image processing in high frame rate contrast enhanced echocardiography

The Biomedical Engineering Group, within the Department of Cardiology at Erasmus MC, is looking for a passionate PhD candidate to join our team and drive innovation in high frame rate ultrasound blood-flow imaging, to enhance our understanding of heart failure/disease.

We are developing new techniques for imaging blood flow in the heart at 1000s of frames per second, allowing us to see how the heart works in slow-motion. Integrating deep learning (AI) into these new techniques is critical so that they can be used in daily clinical practice, to process and analyze the large amount of acquired data.

In this role, you will develop AI models for automated image segmentation and analysis of high frame rate ultrasound images. Your key responsibilities are:

  • Develop cutting-edge machine learning models for automated segmentation, classification and analysis of high frame rate contrast enhanced echocardiography.
  • Design and execute experiments to obtain/curate suitable training data for developing machine learning models.
  • Assess and validate developed models/algorithms.
  • Integrate models into existing ultrasound flow imaging frameworks.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, driving meaningful insights.
  • Contribute to scientific reports and publications that shape the future of medical imaging.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, engineers, and fellow researchers to bring the technique to clinical use.

Gespecialiseerd verpleegkundige Hematologie
