Systems Engineer

As a Systems Engineer within this company, you will manage the day to day operations of the server infrastructure. The infrastructure consists of Novell NetWare and Microsoft Server environments. You will be responsible for the enterprise level systems administration and configuration of production server environments, deployment and monitoring. Besides that, as a Systems Engineer you'll provides 2nd level support, troubleshooting and problem solving for the Service Desk and acts as a conduit to 3rd level support.

Besides System administration you will manage smaller projects individually and can be part of a team and work on larger projects. You will be able to work self sufficient and are able to participates as technical expert in design, development and implementation.

Your key responsibilities will be

• Provide telephone/remote/on-site support, independently troubleshooting (complex) technical problems escalated by the other members of the IS & T team, by analyzing the problem.
• Participates in the administration of Windows servers and support the various applications running on those servers in an enterprise-class environment.
• Assists in the administration of Microsoft Active Directory servers in an enterprise-class environment.
• Develop and maintain a broad background in core technology offerings, to ensure high quality coverage. Quickly learn new technology and products.
• Responsible for ensuring proper deployment of needed new infrastructure and assist in planning and deployment of new technology initiatives supporting the enterprise.
• Ensures system performance optimization in a production environment.
• Perform server updates and upgrades as necessary or as specified / recommended by software, hardware vendors or senior staff.
• Thoroughly test all work, and involve users acceptance testing to ensure their needs are met. Ensure that systems are fully functional and meet the business needs.
• Assist with training and development of IS & T staff.
• Effectively communicate with staff. Build a good working relationship and ensure an understanding of the needs and objectives, and be involved in cost/risk decisions.
• Follow procedures to deliver services in an organized, effective manner to ensure users perceive IS & T to be thorough, well prepared and punctual. Take ownership of issues and show professionalism and control.
• Participate in weekly and monthly conference calls with technical colleagues in the US to discuss technical issues, plans, designs and implementation.
• Support for the financial applications such as invoice scanning and reconciliation applications, including upgrades.
• Provide Management support for the Network Supervisor and the Operations & Network Manager Europe

Your Profile

• Broad IT experience and awareness of impact of your work on the entire IT systems structure and the rest of the business.
• Enthusiastic, goal oriented team player with a service oriented attitude.
• At least 3 years experience in Systems Administration in an enterprise environments (50+ servers)
• Microsoft Active Directory expertise
• Systems management experience
• Knowledge of network protocols, including LAN and Internet protocols.
• Minimum 3 years experience working in Windows related roles within a large organization.
• Experience with AntiVirus management.
• Experience with HP / Dell / IBM Hardware platforms.
• Prepared to be on-call and work evening shifts.
• Able to work on own initiative.
• Result-driven and able to meet deadlines.
• Shows pride in producing quality deliverables.
• Quick to learn new technologies and keen to stay up to date.
• Willingness to travel infrequently within the Netherlands and the EU.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written). Dutch or other languages are considered an advantage.

Your qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Information Science, computer science or a closely related field
• MCSE or MCSA certified.
• VMware VCP Certification is desirable
• Valid Drivers license for The Netherlands and Europe

 
In this position you will start to work on a half year Vitae contract. After six months our client has the intention to offer you their own contract. Salary will be between € 3200,- and € 3800,- depending on experience and education.
