Network Engineer

IMC financial markets started on the floor in Amsterdam 1989, as a market maker in Dutch single stock options. When European exchanges started to transform into electronic market places, IMC financial markets was one of the first to start electronic trading. In the last 20 years we've expanded our product range to Equity index derivatives, Fixed Income, Commodities and much more. We have also changed from pure options market making to a hedge-fund style proprietary trading firm, engaging in all kinds of arbitrage around the world. We specialize in electronic trading of listed cash and derivatives markets, combined with trading over the phone. IMC and her subsidiaries consist of 650 employees globally. The IT Department within IMC is divided into two branches: Development and Operations. The Operations department is subdivided in "Support", "Infrastructure" and "Integration".  Operations are responsible for the (global) availability, performance, maintenance of systems and applications. Within the Operations Infrastructure team in Amsterdam we're looking for a Network Engineer.

Key accountabilities

• Design, test and implement new network infrastructures
• Improve the performance and availability of existing networks
• Maintain and develop monitoring systems
• Problem and incident management, projects
• Prepare and execute network changes
• Create and maintain documentation
• Network Security

Technical requirements

• Advanced knowledge of networking: TCP/IP, multicast, routing, address translation, security solutions, proxies, firewalling, remote access, LAN switching, VoIP.
• Advanced knowledge of Cisco equipment and configuration  
• 5 years hands on experience with solving network problems and incidents
• 3 years hands on experience with designing and implementing complex networks.
• Knowledge of monitoring solutions
• Flexible working attitude (changes outside office hours, meeting deadlines, changing priorities)

Preferred Skills

• Working experience in a financial environment
• Knowledge of CiscoWorks and Visio
• Knowledge of Netscreen firewalls
• Knowledge of ITIL processes
• Jack of all trades mentality - Good working skill set of general IT comes in handy when problems spill out into other areas

Success Factors

• Must be a self starter, and able to work productively under minimal supervision
• Strong problem solving skill set, being able to break down an issue to find the root cause
• Time management skills - ability to drop everything to solve an urgent issue and pick up where you left off when time allows
